In recent decades much progress has been made in understanding the interactions that shape the business and organizational ecosystem, its communities and partners.

All organizations are placed today before the need to contribute to a fairer society, with better quality of life, and to preserve the environment. This evolutionary leap requires great organisational innovation, using new governance models and new ways of working and managing.

The mission of the Management and Sustainability Research Centre is to analyse the general structures and organisational dynamics that accompany the processes of globalisation and the causes and consequences of the interactions of business and organisational systems, seeking to contribute to a better understanding and dissemination of management systems integrated within the organization-environment.

Main Goals

In this framework the Management and Sustainability Research Centreintends to contribute to:

a)     The improvement of governance systems, particularly at the level of companies, public organisations and non-profit organisations;

b)     The study of organisational dynamics of market orientation;

c)     The study of "happiness of organisations" and socio-cultural and business ethics values;

d)  The definition of policies that support the different pathways to the sustainability of social and natural systems, including governance structures and processes of decision making;

e)     The development of information and communication technologies;

f)       Integrated management of natural resources ;

g)     The study of health management, particularly focusing on the types of organizational structures and management of organisational performance;

h)     The deepening of the study of the fair value of assets and the cost of capital;

i)       The development of methodologies, tools and indicators for integrated analysis and tools to support decision-making;

j)   The diffusion of scientific knowledge especially through national and international scientific publications, the organisation of national and international scientific meetings, exchange and / or cooperation with national and international institutions, as well as training of researchers and senior technicians.

 

Research Groups / Lead Researcher


The development of the scientific activity of the Research Center is carried out based on the structure of the two following Research Groups:

a)   Research Group in Management and Information Systems, whose scientific activity is based on the following fundamental principles: Management and Information Systems are deeply interconnected and the understanding of their interactions is crucial for the proper management of development processes to ensure effective environmental sustainability, and social and economic transition to more sustainable models of governance.

Lead Researcher: Prof. Doutor Mário Macedo

b)   Research Group in Territory Dynamics and Environmental Management, whose scientific activity is based on the following fundamental principle: understanding the interactions of society with the territory and environment is crucial for the proper management of development processes in order to ensure effective environmental, economic and social sustainability and the transition to a more sustainable society.
